PREPARATION
Now Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of the roar of an abundance of rain.” (I Kings 18:41- 45 AMP)
“Things happened fast. The sky grew black with rain driven clouds, and a huge cloudburst of rain, with Ahab hightailing it in his chariot for Jezreel. And God strengthened Elijah mightily. Pulling up his robe and tying it around his waist, Elijah ran in front of Ahab’s chariot until they reached Jezreel. “ (v. 45-46, MSG)
“Prepare now!” Weather forecasters warn of a catastrophic hurricane.
“New Irma models show storm could make landfall along SC coast.” (WYFF)
“Get out as quick as you can”. “Stock up on essentials but don’t overstock”. “Get medicines now”.
As I watch The Weather Channel’s visuals of Hurricane Irma, I’m stunned and drawn closer to the Word to see what God has to say to me this morning. I kid you not; this is what my Bible Study for the morning…totally unscripted, tells me from 1 Kings 17-19. Prepare!
My husband teases me about stocking up water in empty jugs and washed water bottles. Um, hmmm! So what else, Lord, would you have me do to prepare?
Bread, rising as I type.
Elijah told Ahab to “eat and drink”.
Earlier in 1 Kings 17, he told a widow to make him a cake of bread and she’d never run out of flour and oil. Later, while by the brook, ravens brought him bread. And even later, an Angel cooked bread on a charcoal fire and provided a jar of water for God’s obedient servant.
So, what is the word for today? Preparation.
Am I hiding my head in my Bible, filling my soul with the Living Word? Yes! But when I’m satisfied, I get up and do what it says. Prepare.
Abba Father, You provide LIVING WATER, if we will drink. You, O LORD, are the BREAD of LIFE. Only you can satisfy. I seek You first and foremost to prepare for any situation, even CAT 5 Hurricanes.
